Encouraging David

David

David

David

David and I sat on steps, and he did not look at me. I talked to him honestly. I said we should not stop running only because others might laugh. It was not a good reason. David went to the starting line. When the race began, everyone ran fast. But David fell down soon. I was afraid he would stop. I shouted to encourage him, and other people cheered too. He stood up again and finished the race successfully. It did not matter if he won. His bravery and strong hope made everything good in the end.
We sat side by side on the steps, while David refused to look at me. I turned to face him and spoke softly and sincerely. I told him I could understand his feelings, yet we should never give up running just because we feared others’ laughter. Such a reason was not worth stopping him. I asked whether he would let others influence him. After listening carefully, David moved closer little by little. I encouraged him to follow his heart if he really loved running. He thought for a moment, looked at the starting line and decided to have a try.
Then David walked toward the starting line. As soon as the gun sounded, all runners rushed forward at once. Unluckily, David fell down after running a short distance. I felt upset and feared he might give up. So I cheered for him loudly, and soon others joined me together. With our support, David stood up again and kept running until he reached the end, winning warm cheers from all people. In fact, winning first place was not important at all. His courage and strong belief finally helped him achieve something meaningful.
We sat together on some steps, but David wouldn't look at me. I turned around and stared at him directly. My low but sincere voice started, "To be frank, if I were you, I might do the same. However, if we give up running simply because we are concerned too much about someone may laugh at us, I strongly hold that's not a good enough reason. Are you going to let them get in your way?" After hearing what I said, he slowly moved his body a little toward me. "David, if you would truly like to run, just do it." I added. I held my breath as David took this in. Then he looked at the starting line and said with a firm determination, "I'm gonna run."
I watched as David moved up to the starting line. Hardly had the starting gun was fired, when all the runners darted out. But he had only gone a few meters before he tripped and fell flat on the ground. My heart sank, for I truly worried he would give up. Therefore I started to shout encouragement, other voices around me took up the call. "Come on David, you can do it!" David picked himself up and started again until he crossed the finish line to wild cheers and applause. It was no more important whether he won the first place or not. It was his brave heart and strong faith that could make something unusual happen finally.
